Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a difficult year, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden trophy following the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since that period of that year.

Success also indicates he has achieved 21 championships at 21 various events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his skill to play at the elite level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He came back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial tour victory, took control to force a decider.

He defended 4 early opportunities in a tight final set before the champion broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
